About this bond

What it is and who needs it.

What the promoter bond actually covers

New Mexico regulates professional combative events through the Athletic Commission at the Regulation and Licensing Department, under the Professional Athletic Competition Act (NMSA 1978, Chapter 60, Article 2A). Promoters, matchmakers, fighters, and officials must all be licensed by the commission.

Before a promoter license is granted, the promoter must file a bond in an amount fixed by the commission, but not less than $2,000, with good and sufficient surety. The bond is conditioned on the promoter's faithful performance of the Act — paying fighters and officials, remitting fees, and complying with commission rules.

The commission sets the figure for your event or season, and in practice promoter bonds are commonly written at $10,000. Whatever amount the commission names, we issue it at a flat 3% with no credit check.

FAQs

Common questions.

If yours isn't here, the bond team can usually answer within the hour.

How much is the New Mexico athletic promoter bond? +
The premium is a flat 3% of the bond amount, with a $275 minimum. The amount itself is fixed by the Athletic Commission — not less than $2,000, and commonly $10,000 in practice. Enter the figure the commission set and the quote updates.
Who sets the bond amount? +
The New Mexico Athletic Commission. The Professional Athletic Competition Act sets a $2,000 floor and lets the commission fix the actual amount for your license. We issue whatever they require.
What does the bond guarantee? +
The promoter's faithful performance of the Professional Athletic Competition Act — paying fighters and officials, remitting fees, and following commission rules. If you fail and someone is harmed, they can claim against the bond.
Is there a credit check? +
No — the promoter bond is issued with no credit pull. Larger bond amounts may get a quick soft-pull review, which never affects your credit score.
What amount should I enter if I'm not sure? +
Ask the Athletic Commission for the exact figure on your license — it varies by promoter and event. If you have not been told, $10,000 is a common amount. Send us your commission notice and we will confirm.
