KCS Facilities Rail Controlled bonds.
$200 flat.

A contractor whose work reaches rail-controlled space — near active track or within The Kansas City Southern Railway Company's operating right-of-way — files a $10,000 surety bond before KCS will issue a right-of-entry permit for that higher-risk zone. Ours is $200 flat, and the price you see is the checkout price.

About this bond

What it is and who needs it.

What the bond actually guarantees

The Kansas City Southern Railway Company — now operating as part of Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) following the 2023 merger — controls a rail-controlled zone around its active track and operating right-of-way, where a contractor's presence carries higher liability exposure than work on ordinary private property. Before a contractor, utility, or vendor can enter that zone to do work, KCS requires a right-of-entry permit backed by this Rail Controlled bond.

It's a three-party arrangement: you (the principal), our carrier, and The Kansas City Southern Railway Company (the obligee), protecting KCS against damage, liability, or noncompliance arising from your access to rail-controlled space. If a claim is paid, you repay the surety — this is not insurance for you.

KCS has strict wording requirements for this bond form, and it must match the specific facilities class named on your right-of-entry application. This is a private contractual requirement KCS imposes as a condition of access — not a Missouri statute — so confirm the exact bond form and amount KCS's permit office requests before you apply.

The Kansas City Southern Railway Company right-of-entry requirement — not a Missouri statuteThis bond is required by The Kansas City Southern Railway Company (d/b/a CPKC) as a condition of the right-of-entry permit it issues to a contractor or vendor whose work reaches its rail-controlled space — a private railroad access requirement, not a state law. Confirm your required bond form and amount with KCS's permit office before applying.

You need this bond if you're

A contractor or vendor seeking a right-of-entry permit for work near active KCS track
Renewing a right-of-entry permit with an expiring or non-renewing bond on file
A crossing, signal, or track-adjacent crew whose work reaches rail-controlled space
Reinstating a lapsed permit that needs a fresh bond filing

One application, issued instantly.

These are the actual issuing fields, including a one-time consent to a soft credit pull. The pull never affects your score, and your price is fixed at $200.

FAQ

Common questions.

How much is the KCS Facilities Rail Controlled bond? The premium is $200 flat — set by our carrier's rate book for this bond, the same for every applicant. The $10,000 bond amount is fixed by KCS's right-of-entry requirements, so there is no quote process.
Do I pay the $10,000?No. You pay $200. The $10,000 is the surety's maximum liability if a valid claim is made against the bond — not a deposit, and nobody holds your money.
How fast will I have the bond?Facilities access bonds like this are among the thousands of bond types that issue right after purchase — many applicants finish the application and have the bond in the same sitting. At most, 1–2 business days.
Is there a credit check? The application includes a credit consent, but it authorizes a soft credit pull only — a soft inquiry that never affects your score. No hard inquiry ever runs on this bond.
What's the difference between Rail Controlled and Private Only?Rail Controlled covers work that reaches active track or KCS's operating right-of-way. If your work stays entirely within KCS's privately controlled property away from track, the Private Only bond applies instead; we write that one too.
