The City of Pontiac requires an auctioneer to file a $2,500 surety bond, approved by the mayor or city attorney, before the license administrator will issue an auctioneer's license. Ours is $100 flat, and the price you see is the checkout price.

A city auctioneer bond is about the simplest thing in surety. Here's the entire process:
Business details and an effective date. That's the application — no financials, no long form.
License bonds like this are among the thousands of bond types that issue right after purchase. At most, 1–2 business days.
Your executed bond arrives by email, ready to file with your Pontiac auctioneer license application or renewal. Wet-ink original mailed on request.
Pontiac's Code of Ordinances, Chapter 26, Article IV, licenses auctioneers who conduct sales within the city. Section 26-284 conditions the license on a $2,500 surety bond, made out to the city and approved by the mayor or the city attorney, filed with the license administrator.
It's a three-party arrangement: you (the principal), the surety carrier, and the City of Pontiac (the obligee), with buyers, sellers, and the city as the protected parties. If a licensed auctioneer's conduct violates the ordinance or causes covered harm, a claim can be made against the bond.
It is not insurance for you — if the surety pays a claim, you repay the surety. Pontiac auctioneer licenses expire December 31 following the date of issuance, so we track the term and send renewal reminders so your license doesn't lapse.
These are the actual issuing fields — a short business form, no financials.
