The City of Lansing licenses vehicles for hire — taxicabs, limousines, shuttle buses, and the like — through the City Clerk's Office, and conditions the license on a $5,000 bond. Ours is $275 flat, our 3% minimum, the same for every operator.

A license bond is the simplest thing in surety. Here's the entire process:
Business details and an effective date. That's the application — no financials for a small fixed-amount license bond like this.
License bonds like this are among the thousands of bond types that issue right after purchase. At most, 1–2 business days.
Your executed bond arrives by email, ready to file with the City Clerk's Office alongside your vehicle-for-hire license application. Wet-ink original mailed on request.
$5,000 bond × 3% = $150, below our $275 floor — so the premium is $275, one-time per term. Fixed amount, fixed price.
The City of Lansing licenses vehicles for hire — taxicabs, limousines, shuttle buses, and similar — through the City Clerk's Office, and conditions the license on a surety bond. The bond is a public-and-passenger-protection guarantee that the operator follows the city's vehicle-for-hire ordinance.
It's a three-party arrangement: you (the principal), the surety carrier, and the City of Lansing (the obligee), with passengers and the public as the protected parties. If a licensed operator violates the ordinance and someone is harmed, the harmed party can recover against the bond.
The bond must stay active for the life of the license. Let it lapse and the license can be suspended — so we track it and notify you 60 and 30 days out, keeping your $5,000 filing continuous with the City Clerk.
These are the actual issuing fields for a small fixed-amount license bond — submit once and most issue right away.
