About this bond

What it is and who needs it.

What the bond actually guarantees

A water conditioner installer is licensed to select, install, and repair water conditioning equipment. Maryland's Department of the Environment State Board of Well Drillers conditions the license on a $2,000 surety bond — a compliance-and-consumer-protection guarantee standing behind your work under the Board's laws and regulations.

It's a three-party arrangement: you (the principal), the surety carrier, and the State of Maryland (the obligee). The bond is conditioned on compliance with the laws relating to the selection, installation, and repair of water conditioning equipment — if you violate them and someone is harmed, they can recover against the bond.

It is not insurance for you — if the surety pays a claim, you repay the surety. We track the filing and notify you ahead of expiration so your $2,000 bond stays continuous for the life of the license.

Environment Article, Title 13 · COMAR 26.05.01Maryland water conditioner installers are licensed by the Department of the Environment’s State Board of Well Drillers under the Environment Article, Title 13, and the Board’s regulations at COMAR 26.05.01, which require a surety bond (commonly $2,000 for a water conditioner installer) conditioned on compliance with the laws relating to the selection, installation, and repair of water conditioning equipment. Confirm your required amount on the Board’s bond form.

FAQs

Common questions.

If yours isn't here, the bond team can usually answer within the hour.

How much is the Maryland water conditioner installer bond? +
The premium is $275 — our flat-rate minimum. The bond amount is fixed at $2,000, and 3% of that ($60) is below the minimum, so every installer pays the same $275.
Do I pay the $2,000? +
No. You pay $275. The $2,000 is the surety's maximum liability if a valid claim is made — not a deposit, and nobody holds your money.
Who requires this bond? +
The Maryland Department of the Environment's State Board of Well Drillers, as a condition of a water conditioner installer license under the Environment Article and COMAR 26.05.01.
Is there a credit check? +
Not on this bond — the application has no credit section. Small fixed-amount license bonds like this one don't need one.
When does it renew? +
The bond must stay active for as long as you hold the license. You can buy a 1, 2, or 3-year term; we send renewal notices ahead of expiration, with autopay available.
