About this bond

What it is and who needs it.

What the promoter bond actually covers

The Combat Sports Authority of Maine — formerly the Mixed Martial Arts Authority of Maine — is a public instrumentality established under 8 M.R.S. ch. 21 to regulate MMA, Muay Thai, kickboxing, and boxing competitions, exhibitions, and events in Maine. It approves promoters, fighters, officials, and events, and adopts rules governing each.

When the Authority conditions an event on a promoter bond, the bond backs the promoter’s payment and performance obligations — that contracted purses are paid, officials and the Authority are paid, and the event meets the Authority’s requirements. The amount is set by the Authority by rule and by event, not by a single fixed statutory figure, so it scales with the size of the card.

It is a three-party guarantee, not insurance for you: if you fail to meet those obligations and someone is harmed, they can recover against the bond — and if the surety pays, you repay the surety. We issue whatever amount the Authority named, at a flat 3% with no credit check.

8 M.R.S. ch. 21 (Combat Sports Authority of Maine)The Combat Sports Authority of Maine is established under 8 M.R.S. ch. 21 (§§521–525) to regulate MMA, Muay Thai, kickboxing, and boxing events and to adopt rules governing promoters, including fee and financial-assurance requirements. A specific statutory bond dollar amount is not fixed in the chapter; the Authority sets any required promoter bond by rule and by event. Confirm the exact amount and form directly with the Combat Sports Authority of Maine before filing.

FAQs

Common questions.

If yours isn't here, the bond team can usually answer within the hour.

How much is the CSAM promoter bond? +
The premium is a flat 3% of the bond amount, with a $275 minimum. The amount itself is set by the Combat Sports Authority of Maine — there is no single fixed statutory figure, so the Authority sizes it by rule and by event. Enter the amount they gave you and the quote updates.
Does Maine always require a promoter bond? +
Not in every case — the Combat Sports Authority sets financial-assurance and bond requirements by rule, and whether a bond is required (and how much) depends on the Authority and the event. Check with CSAM, and if they require a bond, we’ll issue it.
Is there a credit check? +
No — the promoter bond is issued with no credit pull. Larger bond amounts may get a quick soft-pull review, which never affects your credit score.
What does the bond protect against? +
It backs your payment and performance obligations as a promoter — fighter purses, officials, and the Authority’s requirements. If you fail to meet them and someone is harmed, they can recover against the bond, and if the surety pays, you repay the surety.
What amount should I enter if I’m not sure? +
Use the figure CSAM gave you — there’s no fixed statutory amount. If you don’t have it yet, start at the $10,000 default and send us the Authority’s notice; we’ll re-issue at the exact amount they require.
