About this bond

What it is and who needs it.

What the bond actually guarantees

The City of Hammond licenses electrical contractors who work within the city, and conditions the license on a $1,000 surety bond. The bond is a compliance guarantee: it stands behind your electrical work meeting the city's code and ordinances.

It's a three-party arrangement: you (the principal), the surety carrier, and the City of Hammond (the obligee). If a contractor violates a city ordinance, abandons permitted work, or causes a loss the city is responsible for, a claim can be filed against the bond.

It is not insurance for you — if the surety pays a claim, you repay the surety. Electricians who pull clean permits treat the bond as a license formality, not a risk.

City of Hammond contractor licensingThe City of Hammond requires a $1,000 surety bond as a condition of its electrical contractor license. The bond amount and terms are set by the City of Hammond; confirm the current requirement with the city licensing office. Light RFP does not invent ordinance numbers — we issue the $1,000 bond the city requires.

FAQs

Common questions.

If yours isn't here, the bond team can usually answer within the hour.

How much is the Hammond electrical contractor bond? +
The premium is $275 — our minimum. A flat 3% of the $1,000 bond amount would be $30, which is below the minimum, so the price is $275. Same for every electrical contractor.
Do I pay the $1,000? +
No. You pay $275. The $1,000 is the surety's maximum liability if a valid claim is made against the bond — not a deposit, and nobody holds your money.
How fast will I have the bond? +
Small city license bonds like this are among the thousands of bond types that issue right after purchase — many contractors finish the application and have the bond in the same sitting. At most, 1–2 business days.
Is there a credit check? +
Not on this bond — the application has no credit section at all. Small fixed-amount city license bonds like this one don't need one.
Is the Hammond bond different from the Thibodaux electrical bond? +
Yes — each city sets its own amount. Hammond requires $1,000 for an electrical contractor; Thibodaux requires $2,000. The premium is our $275 minimum in both cases. We can issue either.
