About this bond

What it is and who needs it.

What the bond actually guarantees

A peddler bond is a consumer-protection guarantee. When you sell door to door or from a cart in Des Moines, the City wants a financial backstop that you'll follow its peddler ordinance and deal honestly with residents.

It's a three-party arrangement: you (the principal), the surety carrier, and the City of Des Moines (the obligee), with the residents you sell to as the protected parties. If you take payment and never deliver, or violate the license rules, a harmed resident can recover against the bond.

The bond must stay active for the term of your license. Let it lapse and the City can pull your peddler license — so we track it and notify you 60 and 30 days out, keeping your $1,000 filing continuous.
