About this bond

What it is and who needs it.

What the bond actually guarantees

The Town of Long Beach — a lakefront town on the LaPorte County shoreline — conditions a contractor's license on a $10,000 surety bond. The bond is a code-compliance and public-protection guarantee: it stands behind your work being done to the Town's building codes and your restoring any damage to Town property.

It's a three-party arrangement: you (the principal), the surety carrier, and the Town of Long Beach (the obligee). If a licensed contractor violates the Town's building code, abandons permitted work, or damages public infrastructure, the Town or a harmed party can recover against the bond.

It is not insurance for you — if the surety pays a claim, you repay the surety. Contractors who pull proper permits and build to code treat the bond as a license formality, not a risk.

FAQs

Common questions.

If yours isn't here, the bond team can usually answer within the hour.

How much is the Town of Long Beach contractor bond? +
The price is $300 — a flat 3% of the $10,000 bond, the same for every contractor. The Town fixed the amount, so there is no quote process.
Do I pay the $10,000? +
No. You pay $300. The $10,000 is the surety's maximum liability to the Town if a valid claim is made — not a deposit, and nobody holds your money.
How fast will I have the bond? +
Fixed municipal license bonds like this usually issue right after purchase — many contractors finish the application and have the bond in the same sitting. At most, 1–2 business days.
Is there a credit check? +
Not on this bond — the application has no credit section at all. A fixed $10,000 license bond doesn't need one.
When does it renew? +
The bond must stay active for as long as you hold the Town license. Buy a 1, 2, or 3-year term; we send renewal notices 60 and 30 days out, with autopay available.
