What the Worth contractor bond actually guarantees
The Village of Worth registers contractors through its Building Department and conditions that registration on a surety bond, a current certificate of liability insurance, and — for several trades — a valid state license. A general, electrical, or roofing contractor posts a $10,000 bond; a sign contractor posts $25,000. Plumbing contractors instead show a current Illinois plumbing contractor license (055-IL) and license 058, with no separate bond required for that trade on the Village's registration form.
It is a three-party arrangement: you (the principal), the surety carrier, and the Village of Worth (the obligee), with the Village and the public as the protected parties. Electrical contractors additionally submit a copy of a valid electrical contractor's license, and roofing contractors a valid Illinois roofing contractor license, alongside the bond.
It is not insurance for you — if the surety pays a claim, you repay the surety. Unlike a rolling annual term, the Village's contractor registration and its bond expire every December 31, regardless of the date you first registered; a half-year registration filed after July 1 still expires the same December 31.
