The Village of Homewood registers contractors under Article V of Chapter 12 of the Village Code and conditions that registration on a $10,000 license and permit bond, deposited with the office of the Village Building Official.
It's a three-party arrangement: you (the principal), the surety carrier, and the Village of Homewood (the obligee). The Code conditions the bond on holding the Village harmless against loss, cost, damage, judgment or liability arising from anything done or neglected under the authority of the registration, and on the applicant's faithful observance of all applicable Village and state law.
It is not insurance for you — if the surety pays a claim, you repay the surety. Village Code §12-122(a) notes this bond stands in lieu of a separate bond otherwise required from a contractor under §34-236, so one $10,000 bond covers both. Registration runs one year from its anniversary date of issuance, so plan your renewal around that date, not the calendar year.
