The City of Harvey requires every contractor who performs work within city limits to register with its Department of Planning, Building and Inspectional Services — registration is conditioned on a $20,000 surety bond. A property owner using an unregistered contractor risks the same enforcement exposure as the contractor itself.
It's a three-party arrangement: you (the principal), the surety carrier, and the City of Harvey (the obligee), with property owners and the City as the protected parties. If a registered contractor's work causes covered harm or breaches the registration conditions, a claim can be brought against the bond.
It is not insurance for you — if the surety pays a claim, you repay the surety. Harvey contractor registrations expire one year from the date of registration, so we track your term and notify you 60 and 30 days before expiration to keep your $20,000 filing continuous.
