$275. Five minutes.

Illinois requires every day and temporary labor services agency to register with the Department of Labor and file a $5,000 surety bond. At 3% the math lands below our floor, so the price is the $275 minimum. The application is five minutes, and bonds like this are the fastest thing we issue.

About this bond

What it is and who needs it.

What the bond actually guarantees

Illinois regulates staffing agencies under the Day and Temporary Labor Services Act (820 ILCS 175), administered by the Department of Labor's Fair Labor Standards Division. An agency that places day or temporary laborers must register with the Department and file a $5,000 surety bond as a condition of registration.

It's a three-party arrangement: you (the principal), the surety carrier, and the State of Illinois (the obligee), with day and temporary laborers as the protected parties. The bond stands behind your compliance with the Act — including paying the wages your workers are owed.

The bond must stay active for the life of your registration. Let it lapse and your registration can be affected — so we track it and notify you 60 and 30 days out, keeping your $5,000 filing continuous.

820 ILCS 175 (Day and Temporary Labor Services Act)The Illinois Day and Temporary Labor Services Act (820 ILCS 175), enforced by the Department of Labor, requires day and temporary labor services agencies to register with the Department and file a $5,000 surety bond. Recent amendments raised the annual registration fee and added compliance obligations — confirm the current bond amount and registration fee on your IDOL application, as the Act has been amended several times.

If yours isn't here, the bond team can usually answer within the hour.

How much is the Illinois day and temporary labor bond? +
The premium is $275 — our minimum. The bond amount is fixed at $5,000 by the Day and Temporary Labor Services Act, and 3% of $5,000 is $150, which falls below our $275 floor. Same number for every agency.
Do I pay the $5,000? +
No. You pay $275. The $5,000 is the surety's maximum liability if a valid claim is made against the bond — not a deposit, and nobody holds your money.

Where do I file it? +
With the Illinois Department of Labor. IDOL accepts the original bond through its online registration portal, by email, or by mail. We issue the executed bond ready to submit with your registration.
