About this bond

What it is and who needs it.

What the bond actually guarantees

Georgia regulates immigration assistance providers — non-lawyers who help people complete immigration forms — and conditions registration on a $5,000 surety bond. The bond is a consumer-protection guarantee: it stands behind honest, compliant conduct toward the people you assist.

It runs to the Secretary of State for the use of the State of Georgia, and for the benefit of any person with a valid cause of action against the provider for malfeasance or misfeasance in providing immigration assistance. If a provider harms a client, that client can recover against the bond.

It is not insurance for you — if the surety pays a valid claim, you repay the surety. We track your filing and send renewal notices 60 and 30 days out so your $5,000 bond stays continuous while you’re registered.

O.C.G.A. § 43-20A-4 (Secretary of State)Georgia’s Registration of Immigration Assistance Act (O.C.G.A. Title 43, Chapter 20A) conditions registration as an immigration assistance provider on a $5,000 surety bond payable to the Secretary of State, for the use of the state and any person with a valid cause of action for malfeasance or misfeasance by the provider. The bond is filed on the Secretary of State’s form and acknowledged before a notary.

FAQs

Common questions.

If yours isn't here, the bond team can usually answer within the hour.

How much is the Georgia immigration assistance provider bond? +
The premium is $275 — our minimum. The bond amount is a fixed $5,000, and 3% of that is $150, which falls below our $275 floor, so $275 is the price for every provider.
Do I pay the $5,000? +
No. You pay $275. The $5,000 is the surety’s maximum liability if a valid claim is made against the bond — not a deposit, and nobody holds your money.
Does the bond need to be notarized? +
Yes. The Secretary of State’s bond form is acknowledged before a notary public. We deliver the executed bond ready for that step, with the power of attorney attached.
Is there a credit check? +
Not on this bond — the application has no credit section at all. Small fixed-amount registration bonds like this one don’t need one.
When does it renew? +
The bond must stay active while you’re registered. You can buy a 1, 2, or 3-year term; we send renewal notices 60 and 30 days out, with autopay available.
