About this bond

What it is and who needs it.

What the bond actually guarantees

A Pasco County contractor license bond is written on the County's own Contractor Surety Bond form, with the holder of a County certificate of competency named as principal and the partnership named on the same form. It protects anyone who suffers a loss because the principal fails to follow a municipal or County code that applies to the work, and it obliges the principal to fix defects from faulty workmanship or materials, at no extra cost to the person the work was done for, for one year after the work.

It's a three-party arrangement: the certificate of competency holder and the partnership (the principal), the surety carrier, and the obligee, the party the bond is made out to. On the County form the obligee is the Governor of the State of Florida and his successors in office, not the County. If defective work is not fixed, the person it was done for can sue on the bond, but not more than one year after the work is finished.

The bond expires on October 1, the premium anniversary on the County's form, whatever day you buy. We track it and notify you 60 and 30 days out, keeping your $5,000 filing continuous.

Pasco County Building Construction ServicesPasco County's Contractor Surety Bond form (Revision Date 2/16/2016, DS Admin Approved 10/1/2025) sets a $5,000 penal sum, runs to the Governor of the State of Florida and his successors in office, and expires each October 1, the premium anniversary.

FAQ

Common questions.

How much is the Pasco County partnership contractor license bond? The premium is $100 flat, and the bond runs to October 1. It is not a percentage of the $5,000 bond amount. Same price for every partnership.
Do I pay the $5,000?No. You pay $100. The $5,000 is the surety's maximum liability if a valid claim is made against the bond — not a deposit, and nobody holds your money.
Partnership vs. individual — which do I need?Pasco County uses one bond form for both: the certificate of competency holder is named as principal, and the form records whether the business runs as an individual, a company, a partnership or a corporation. This version is for a holder doing business as a partnership; if you do business as an individual, use the individual version instead.
Is there a credit check? The application collects no credit information, and most applications approve instantly.
When does it renew? The bond expires on October 1, the premium anniversary printed on the County form, whatever day you buy, and renews from that date. We send renewal notices 60 and 30 days out so your bond never lapses over a missed email.
Which A-rated carriers underwrite these bonds?Typically Arch Insurance Company (A.M. Best A+) or Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company (A.M. Best A). Which one writes your bond depends on the bond type and your state. The carrier's name and official signature are printed on the bond you receive.
How do I contact Light RFP about this bond?Email insurance@lightrfp.com. It reaches the bond team at Light RFP Risk Management Services LLC (NY DFS License # PC-1978982). Write to us about quotes, applications, bond forms or certificates. We will respond within 24 hours.
