A Business Services Bond — also called a janitorial bond or employee-dishonesty bond — protects a client's property from theft by your employees while they're working on the client's premises. Many service contracts require one before you can start. This tier covers a $5,000 loss limit for a business with 6 or fewer employees, at $131 flat — the price you see is the checkout price, and the application collects no credit information.

About this bond

What it is and who needs it.

What the bond actually guarantees

A Business Services Bond is the most common form of fidelity bond: it covers a loss when an employee of yours steals from a client — not from you — while performing work on the client's premises. Janitorial and cleaning companies, handyman and home-service contractors, and in-home care providers are the businesses that most often carry one, because they routinely send employees into other people's homes and offices.

It's a three-party arrangement: you (the principal), the surety carrier, and your client as the protected party for any given job. If an employee is proven to have stolen from a client while performing services you were hired for, the client can make a claim against the bond up to its $5,000 limit.

It is not insurance for you — if the surety pays a claim, it can seek recovery from the employee responsible, not from your business generally. Coverage does not extend to volunteers or 1099 contractors — only your own employees are covered. There is no government statute behind this bond; it exists because clients and their contracts ask for it.

Client contract — not a government statuteA Business Services Bond is typically a private, contractual requirement set by the client, property manager, or commercial contract you're servicing — not a federal, state, or municipal statute. Requesting parties vary by industry: property management companies commonly require one of a janitorial vendor, and service contracts (including some government service contracts) can specify one as a condition of the engagement. Confirm the limit your specific client or contract requires before applying.

You need this bond if you're

A janitorial or cleaning company sending employees onto client premises
A handyman, home-repair, or in-home service business whose contract asks for employee-dishonesty coverage
Bidding on a commercial or property-management contract that lists a business services bond as a requirement
Renewing an expiring bond to stay in compliance with an existing client contract

FAQ

Common questions.

How much is the $5,000 Business Services Bond? The premium is $131 flat — set by our carrier's rate book for this coverage limit and employee-count tier (6 or fewer employees). Because the limit and tier are fixed, there is no quote process.
Do I pay the $5,000?No. You pay $131. The $5,000 is the surety's maximum payout if a valid claim is proven against you — not a deposit, and nobody holds your money.
How fast will I have the bond? This bond is among the thousands of bond types that issue right after purchase — many businesses have it in the same sitting. At most, 1–2 business days.
Is there a credit check? The application collects no credit information, so most applicants approve instantly. If a check ever runs on this bond, it's a soft pull that won't affect your score.
What if I have more than 6 employees? Then you'd want the tier priced for 16 or more employees, or the higher $25,000 coverage limit — we write those too. Pick the tier that matches your actual headcount and the limit your client's contract requires.
