CO business disposal bonds.
$1,500 flat. Soft pull.

A business disposal dealer license lets a Colorado business sell off the vehicles in its own fleet without becoming a full retail dealer — and it requires a $50,000 bond with the Auto Industry Division. Ours is $1,500 flat — 3% of the bond amount, identical for every dealer. One soft credit pull, e-signed in 1–2 business days.

About this bond

What it is and who needs it.

What the bond actually guarantees

A business disposal dealer is a Colorado license category for a business that needs to sell vehicles out of its own fleet — rental, utility, or company cars — without operating as a retail dealership. The Auto Industry Division conditions the license on a $50,000 surety bond, the same amount as a full dealer.

The bond is a title-and-compliance guarantee: it stands behind clear title on the vehicles you dispose of and your compliance with Colorado's motor vehicle sales laws. It's a three-party arrangement among you (the principal), the surety, and the State of Colorado together with harmed buyers.

It is not insurance for you — if the surety pays a claim, you repay the surety. Confirm with the Auto Industry Division that the business disposal category fits how you plan to sell — the division can tell you whether this license or a wholesaler license is the right one.

C.R.S. Title 44, Article 20 (form DR 2830)Colorado business disposal dealers are licensed by the Department of Revenue's Auto Industry Division and Motor Vehicle Dealer Board under Title 44, Article 20, which conditions the license on a $50,000 surety bond filed on form DR 2830. The business disposal category covers a business selling its own fleet vehicles — confirm the category and amount with the division before you file.

FAQs

Common questions.

If yours isn't here, the bond team can usually answer within the hour.

What is a business disposal dealer? +
It is a Colorado license category for a business that sells vehicles out of its own fleet — rental, utility, or company cars — without operating as a full retail dealership. The Auto Industry Division licenses it and requires the $50,000 bond.
Do I pay the $50,000? +
No. You pay $1,500 — the flat 3% of the bond amount. The $50,000 is the surety's maximum liability to the state and harmed buyers; it's not a deposit, and nobody holds your money.
What does the bond guarantee? +
That you deliver clear title on the vehicles you dispose of and follow Colorado dealer law. If you fail to and someone is harmed, they can claim against the bond — and if the surety pays, you repay the surety.
Is there a credit check? +
Yes — one soft credit pull, which never affects your score. It's the only extra step beyond the application, and it informs approval, not price. The rate is a flat 3% either way.
When does it renew? +
Terms run 1, 2, or 3 years — your choice at purchase. You'll get renewal notices 60 and 30 days before expiration, with autopay available, and the bond must stay active for your license to stay valid.
