About this bond

What it is and who needs it.

What the bond actually guarantees

An Arizona private investigator agency bond is a public-protection guarantee. You investigate on behalf of clients, and the state wants a financial backstop that the agency conducts its business honestly and faithfully under Arizona's private investigator law.

It's a three-party arrangement: you (the principal), the surety carrier, and the people of the State of Arizona through the Department of Public Safety (the obligee). The bond protects clients and the public against wrongful acts by the principal, a partner, a private investigator, agent, or employee of the agency.

The DPS agency license runs two years, and the bond must stay active for the life of the license. We track it and notify you 60 and 30 days before expiration, keeping your $2,500 filing continuous so your agency license never lapses.

A.R.S. 32-2425 (Department of Public Safety)A.R.S. 32-2425 conditions an Arizona private investigator agency license, issued by the Department of Public Safety for a two-year term, on a $2,500 surety bond for the benefit of the people of the State of Arizona. The bond protects against wrongful acts or statutory violations by the principal, a member of the firm, partner, private investigator, agent, or employee.

FAQs

Common questions.

If yours isn't here, the bond team can usually answer within the hour.

How much is the Arizona private investigator bond? +
The premium is $275 — our minimum. The bond amount is fixed at $2,500 by statute, and 3% of $2,500 is $75, below our $275 minimum, so the price is $275 for every agency. There is no quote process.
Do I pay the $2,500? +
No. You pay $275. The $2,500 is the surety's maximum liability if a valid claim is made against the bond — not a deposit, and nobody holds your money.
How fast will I have the bond? +
License bonds like this are among the thousands of bond types that issue right after purchase — many agencies finish the application and have the bond in the same sitting. At most, 1–2 business days.
Is there a credit check? +
Not on this bond — the application has no credit section at all. Small fixed-amount license bonds like this one don't need one.
When does it renew? +
The DPS private investigator agency license runs two years, and the bond must stay active for the life of the license. We send renewal notices 60 and 30 days out, with autopay available, so your agency license never lapses over a missed email.
