About this bond

What it is and who needs it.

What the bond actually guarantees

Alabama licenses residential roofers through the Home Builders Licensure Board, and conditions the license on a $10,000 surety bond. The bond is a compliance guarantee: it stands behind your obligation to follow Alabama's residential roofing law and the Board's rules.

It's a three-party arrangement: you (the principal), the surety carrier standing behind you, and the State of Alabama / Home Builders Licensure Board (the obligee). If a roofer violates the licensing law and the Board or a harmed party recovers, the claim is paid against the bond.

It is not insurance for you — if the surety pays a claim, you repay the surety. Roofers who follow the rules treat the bond as a license formality, and we track the renewal so your $10,000 filing stays continuous.

Title 34, Chapter 14A + Admin. Code 465-X-3-.04Alabama residential roofers are licensed by the Home Builders Licensure Board under Title 34, Chapter 14A of the Code of Alabama, and the Board's Administrative Code (Chapter 465-X) requires a $10,000 residential roofer bond naming the Board as obligee. The Board's practice is to have the bond expire on December 31 of the license year — confirm the exact term on your application.

FAQs

Common questions.

If yours isn't here, the bond team can usually answer within the hour.

How much is the Alabama residential roofer bond? +
The premium is $300 — a flat 3% of the $10,000 bond amount, the same for every roofer. The $10,000 is set by the Board, so there is no quote process.
Do I pay the $10,000? +
No. You pay $300. The $10,000 is the surety's maximum liability if a valid claim is made against the bond — not a deposit, and nobody holds your money.
How fast will I have the bond? +
License bonds like this are among the thousands of bond types that issue right after purchase — many roofers finish the application and have the bond in the same sitting. At most, 1–2 business days.
Is there a credit check? +
Not on this bond — the application has no credit section at all. Small fixed-amount license bonds like this one don't need one.
When does it renew? +
The Home Builders Licensure Board ties the roofer license to a December 31 year, and the bond runs with it. We send renewal notices 60 and 30 days out, with autopay available, so your license never lapses over a missed email.
