HUMBOLT PACIFIC CREST TRAIL BRIDGE REPLACEMENT

The project requires the full removal and disposal of the existing steel and timber bridge, which consists of (4) 33-foot long, 24-inch deep H9 open-web steel joists, steel framing and railing posts, and timber decking and railing. The new bridge shall be a 6-foot by 35-foot glulam deck panel bridge with timber railing. Existing approaches will be reconstructed to match plans and the new grade of the bridge, and approach railing shall be installed. New timber sills will sit directly on bedrock and a concrete levelling course. The east approach will require bedrock removal for proper elevation and a suitable seat for the sill. The contractor shall submit a bridge removal/erection plan that clearly specifies the number of flights and flight days, and shall minimize the number of flights as much as practical. The work is located in the Hoover Wilderness at coordinates 38.2263°, -119.5767°, accessed via trail. Helicopter transports, mechanized saws and drills, and generators will be allowed for this project only under a special exception.
