Perfusion auto transfusion is a medical process in which a patient s own blood is collected, processed, and reinfused during surgery or after traumatic injury. This technique helps minimize the need for donor blood, reducing the risk of transfusion-related complications and promoting faster recovery. The procedure is commonly used in cardiovascular, orthopedic, and trauma surgeries where significant blood loss is expected.
The contractor shall provide on-site Perfusion/Autotransfusion Services and a Health Aid and Technician-Perfusion Assistant at the VA Caribbean Healthcare System, 10 Casia Street, San Juan, PR 00921. Services include operating heart-lung machines, autotransfusion pumps, intra-aortic balloon pumps, and centrifugal ventricular assist devices for cardiovascular surgeries. The contractor must provide two (2) Board Certified/Board Eligible Clinical Perfusionist/Autotransfusionists for on-site coverage on Mondays and Wednesdays from 7:00am to 3:30pm, on-call coverage during weeknights and 24-hour coverage on other days, and one (1) Health Aid and Technician-Perfusion Assistant for biweekly cleaning and maintenance of heater cooler machines, including quarterly laboratory testing of water samples.
