The contractor shall reduce the overall basal area from 195 BA to an average of 85 BA by removing trees in the 8" to 24" DBH classes, with a preferential species target of white fir, Douglas-fir, Engelmann spruce, and aspen. The contractor must produce a treatment area with a mixture of meandering openings, groups of trees, clumps of trees, and single trees. Specific requirements include stump height not exceeding 5", slash dispersed not exceeding 12" in depth, no removal of dead/dying trees showing wildlife use ≥ 8" DBH, daylighting all aspen stands, and treating a 5-acre test section before full implementation. The contractor must also comply with surface conditions, fire extinguisher, fueling, hazardous materials, protection of markers, weed control, and other operational requirements as detailed in the scope of work.
