RFP 104-26: Bus Stop Sign Fabrication and Installation Services
The contractor will fabricate and install approximately 2,500 double-sided bus stop signs (front signs showing route/destination information and rear/generic signs with a bus logo and No Parking roundel) across the MBTA bus network, which spans 50 municipalities and roughly 6,850 stops. Work includes replacing damaged or missing signs and signposts, installing new signposts where required, and ensuring ADA and Bus Stop Design Guidelines compliance. Signs must be fabricated from .080 grade aluminum using MBTA-provided digital graphic files, meet ASTM Type III retro-reflectivity standards, and be mounted per detailed specifications for hardware, angles, and post materials. The vendor must record each installation with geotagged before/after photos, meet regularly with the MBTA Bus Stop Team, work in phases by corridor or route, and relocate signs within 72 hours of notification. Work is to occur over a 12-month period from December 1, 2026 through November 30, 2027, with options for additional signage work based on performance.

Most Massachusetts work asks for the two below, and the solicitation documents are where it’s stated. One prequalification covers both — on this bid and the next.
A surety’s written statement that it expects to bond you up to a stated amount, subject to final underwriting. It’s what an agency asks to see before they take your bid seriously.
