HUMBOLDT TRAIL BRIDGE REPLACEMENT

The purpose of this project is to replace the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) trail bridge over the West Fork West Walker River. The bridge is located in a remote location of the Hoover Wilderness, where there is no motorized access.
Due to the remoteness of the location, Site Visit will be conducted by Zoom. Offerors are permitted to visit the site at their convenience.

The contractor shall remove and dispose of the existing steel and timber bridge (four 33-foot H9 open-web steel joists, steel framing, timber decking and railing) entirely off federal lands. The new bridge shall be a 6-foot by 35-foot glulam deck panel bridge with timber railing. Existing approaches will be reconstructed to match plans and new grade, and approach railing shall be installed. New timber sills will sit directly on bedrock with a concrete levelling course; the east approach requires bedrock removal. The contractor shall submit a bridge removal/erection plan specifying number of flights and flight days, and shall minimize flights. Helicopter transports, mechanized saws, drills, and generators are allowed under a wilderness exception. The contractor must follow Leave No Trace principles, store food in bear-resistant containers, clean tools to prevent spread of aquatic nuisance species, and provide traffic control. Work is in the Hoover Wilderness at coordinates 38.2263°, -119.5767°, accessed from Leavitt Meadows Trailhead or PCT Trailhead on Sonora Pass (Highway 108).
