Air Force Research Laboratory, Foundational Technologies Directorate (AFRL/RE) is seeking manufacturing technology research and development focused on strengthening defense manufacturing capabilities through the discovery of new manufacturing capabilities and efficiencies, and transitioning capability to the factory or depot floor. Descriptors of manufacturing technology interests are presented in the attachments in the context of manufacturing research and technology development approaches and their applicability to the Air Force high impact technology domains.
AFRL/RE is soliciting white papers and potentially full technical and cost proposals for manufacturing research and technology development. The work involves applying advanced manufacturing technologies to systems in technology domains such as Advanced Concepts, Attritable and Low Cost Systems, Networked C3 Systems, Hypersonic Strike, and Emerging Technologies. Specific areas of interest include Future Factory technologies (process monitoring and control, non-destructive evaluation/inspection, virtual/augmented/mixed reality for manufacturing and sustainment), as well as manufacturing risk reduction for AFRL's Transformational Capabilities programs including Vanguard programs such as Skyborg and Golden Horde.
