This radar must be easily re-deployable because it will be moved periodically among ARM observatory locations. Set-up time should be on the order of or less than a day to accommodate flexible siting requirements per the attached technical specification.

It must meet base physical requirements including X-band wavelength, measurements of reflected power and Doppler velocity, an achievable effective beamwidth <= 2 degrees, a pedestal that rotates 360 degrees azimuth at at least 5 rpm, electronic scans +/- 45 degrees horizontal and +/- 15 degrees vertical, minimum sensitivity ~25 dBZ at 30 km, internal calibration source, and operation in wind speeds up to ~50 mph and temperatures from -50C to 50C. The radar must come with software for flexible beam shaping, scanning, and communication, including ability to shape the transmission beam, execute standard weather scans (PPIs, RHIs, sectors), track meteorological targets, detect and display multiple aircraft targets for Beyond Visual Line of Sight UAS operations, receive external commands, and output radar reflectivity, Doppler velocity spectra, averaged Doppler velocity, and Doppler spectrum width. Dual polarization and digital beamforming are desirable but not committed requirements.
