Tools & equipment
Tools & equipment · For contractors

Tools & equipment application.

The questions an underwriter needs to insure a contractor’s tools and machines: the business, each machine listed with its value, your hand tools as one amount, gear you rent, where it all sits overnight and how it is secured, and the losses you have had. Answer what you can and send it from the review sheet. Our brokerage takes it to market and comes back with quotes, or with questions.

Plan on 15 to 20 minutes for one machine and your hand tools, with your equipment list to hand. Your answers are kept in this browser tab only, with no account. Closing the tab clears them, so gather your documents first (the checklist lists them).

Insurers need this to quote. You can send with blanks; we’ll ask for the rest.

What to have on hand: your equipment list and your current policy (6 things)

Most of it is on your equipment list, your purchase and rental paperwork and your current declarations page. Answer counts assume one listed machine, your hand tools and no losses.

  • Your equipment listEach machine or larger item: what it is, the year, make and model, and the serial number if you have it. The form lists ten items. With more, send the full list to insurance@lightrfp.com (a spreadsheet is fine).
  • What it is worthWhat a similar machine would cost to buy today, and what all your hand tools would cost to replace.
  • Rented and financed gearWhat you spend renting equipment in a year, and the lender, lessor or rental company for anything you don’t own outright.
  • Where it is keptYour shop or yard’s address, how it is locked and watched, and how gear is secured on site and in the trucks.
  • Your current policyThe declarations page shows your limit, your deductible and how losses are valued today.
  • Loss runs, if you have themFive years of losses from your insurer, plus any theft you didn’t claim for. You can send them after by replying to your confirmation email.

After you send

What happens after you send.

  1. We read it

A Light RFP broker reads every answer and asks about anything blank or flagged, including any machines past the first ten.

  2. We take it to market

Our brokerage takes it to the insurers whose appetite fits your work.

  3. You compare and choose

Limits, deductibles, theft conditions and how losses are valued, side by side. Our brokerage puts the policy you choose in force and issues the certificates your contracts ask for.

Send us your equipment list and we’ll fill this in with you.
