Commercial auto
Commercial auto · For contractors and owners

Commercial auto application.

The questions an underwriter needs to quote the trucks, vans and trailers a business runs, from a contractor’s crew trucks to a property manager’s maintenance vans: the business, how far and how the vehicles go, each vehicle, your drivers, rented and employees’ own cars, and the cover you want. Answer what you can and send it from the review sheet. Our brokerage takes it to market and comes back with quotes, or with questions.

Plan on 15 to 25 minutes for one vehicle and one driver, with your documents to hand. Your answers are kept in this browser tab only, with no account. Closing the tab clears them, so gather your documents first (the checklist lists them).

Insurers need this to quote. You can send with blanks; we’ll ask for the rest.

What to have on hand: your vehicle list, your drivers and your current policy (6 things)

Most of it is on your registrations, your current declarations page and your contracts. Answer counts assume one vehicle, one driver and no claims.

  • Your vehicle listYear, make and model of each vehicle and trailer, the ZIP code where it is kept overnight, and the VIN if you have it. The form lists ten vehicles and ten drivers. With more, send the full list to insurance@lightrfp.com (a spreadsheet is fine).
  • What each vehicle is worthFor the ones you want insured for damage: what it would cost to replace today, with anything bolted on.
  • Your driversEach driver’s name, years licensed, the state that licensed them, and any accidents or tickets in the last three years. No license numbers or dates of birth on this form.
  • Your current policyThe declarations page shows your limits, your deductibles and how each vehicle is insured today.
  • What your contracts ask forThe auto limits and wording in your RFPs and contracts: additional insured, waiver of subrogation, primary and non-contributory.
  • Loss runs, if you have themYour current insurer’s record of your claims, for the last three to five years. You can send them after by replying to your confirmation email.

After you send

What happens after you send.

  1. We read it

A Light RFP broker reads every answer and asks about anything blank or flagged. Insurers check driving records before they quote, so we ask you then for the driver details they need.

  2. We take it to market

Our brokerage takes it to the insurers whose appetite fits your work.

  3. You compare and choose

Limits, deductibles and exclusions side by side, matched to what your contracts, leases and lenders require. Our brokerage puts the policy you choose in force and issues your certificates.

Send us your vehicle list and we’ll fill this in with you.
