What the bond actually guarantees
A public weigher is licensed to issue official certificates of weight that buyers and sellers rely on to close a sale — cotton, grain, livestock, scrap, and other commodities. The bond is an accuracy-and-honesty guarantee: that you weigh correctly and certify truthfully.
It's a three-party arrangement: you (the principal), the surety carrier, and the State of Texas through the Department of Agriculture (the obligee), with the parties who rely on your certificates as the protected parties. If a weigher issues a false or careless certificate and someone is harmed, that party can recover against the bond.
The bond must stay in place for your license. A Texas public weigher license runs a two-year term and is non-renewable — you reapply when it expires — so we track your bond and notify you 60 and 30 days out, keeping the $10,000 filing continuous.

If a claim is made
