Harris County issues permits to move loads that exceed legal limits for size or weight — oversize, overweight, overlength and overheight — across county roads and bridges, and conditions those permits on a surety bond. The bond is a road-protection guarantee: it stands behind any damage your outsized or heavy load causes to county infrastructure.
It's a three-party arrangement: you (the principal), the surety carrier, and Harris County (the obligee). If a permitted load damages a county road, bridge, or structure, the County can recover the repair cost against the bond.
It is not insurance for you. If the surety pays for damage, you repay the surety. Carriers who run their permitted loads carefully treat the bond as a routine condition of the permit.

If a claim is made
A claim comes from the party the bond protects, the obligee named on the form, when the duty the bond guarantees is not met.

Renewal and term
The premium covers a one-year term from the effective date you choose.
