Instead of tying up cash, Southwest Tennessee Electric Membership Corporation — the member-owned electric cooperative serving Haywood, Fayette, Tipton, Chester, and surrounding counties — lets a member post a surety bond to secure an electric-service account in place of a cash security deposit. The cooperative sets the deposit amount — premiums cost 2% of the bond amount, $100 minimum, and the application collects no credit information.

No underwriting queue for the standard utility deposit bond — enter your amount, pay, and deliver it to the cooperative. Here is the whole thing:
Your details, the deposit amount the cooperative required, and the effective date — that is the entire application.
The application collects no credit information, so most bonds generate the moment you pay. Larger amounts may get a quick soft-pull review that never affects your score.
Submit the executed bond to the cooperative in place of your cash deposit. Wet-ink originals mailed on request.
Southwest Tennessee Electric Membership Corporation’s Schedule of Rules and Regulations provides that "a deposit or suitable guarantee may be required of any Member before electric service is supplied." Rather than leaving cash on deposit for as long as the account is open, a member can post a utility deposit surety bond for the same amount instead.
It is a three-party arrangement: you (the principal), the surety carrier, and Southwest Tennessee EMC (the obligee). Under the cooperative’s rules, the deposit is applied against unpaid bills upon termination of service, with any remaining balance refunded to the member — and if the surety pays a claim against the bond, you repay the surety.
Southwest TN EMC is organized under Tennessee’s Rural Electric and Community Services Cooperative Act (Tenn. Code Ann. Title 65, Chapter 25), but the deposit requirement itself is set by the cooperative’s own published Schedule of Rules and Regulations, not a numbered statute section — we issue the amount the cooperative confirms, from $100, and the application collects no credit information.
Submit the application with the deposit amount the cooperative set — the executed bond is generated instantly, ready to deliver.
