About this bond

What it is and who needs it.

What the septic & night soil bond covers

Metro Nashville/Davidson County regulates the pumping, transport, and disposal of septic tank contents and night soil (human waste hauled from holding tanks and similar sources) to protect groundwater, the sewer system, and public health. A permitted hauler conditions that work on a fixed $10,000 surety bond filed with Metro.

It is a three-party guarantee: you (the principal), the surety carrier, and the Metropolitan Government (the obligee). If a hauler dumps illegally or otherwise violates the permit conditions, Metro can recover against the bond up to $10,000.

The bond must stay active for as long as you hold the permit. Let it lapse and the permit can be suspended — so we track it and notify you 60 and 30 days out. We issue the fixed $10,000 amount at $300 with no credit check.

Metropolitan Nashville/Davidson County — septic / night soil hauler permitThe Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requires a $10,000 surety bond as a condition of a permit to haul septic tank contents and night soil, with the bond filed with the responsible metro department. The $10,000 amount is taken from the bond name on the Metro application; confirm it on your permit paperwork.

FAQs

Common questions.

If yours isn't here, the bond team can usually answer within the hour.

How much is the Nashville septic & night soil bond? +
The premium is $300 — a flat 3% of the fixed $10,000 bond amount, the same for every hauler. The $10,000 is set by Metro, so there is no quote process.
Do I pay the $10,000? +
No. You pay $300. The $10,000 is the surety's maximum liability if a valid claim is made against the bond — not a deposit, and nobody holds your money.
How fast will I have the bond? +
Fixed-amount license bonds like this issue right after purchase for many haulers — at most within 1–2 business days. Your e-signed bond arrives by email, ready to file.
Is there a credit check? +
Not on this bond — the application has no credit section at all. Small fixed-amount license bonds like this one don't need one.
When does it renew? +
The bond must stay active for as long as you hold the Metro permit. You can buy a 1, 2, or 3-year term; we send renewal notices 60 and 30 days out, with autopay available, so your permit never lapses over a missed email.
