What the bond actually guarantees

Oregon's Construction Contractors Board (CCB) offers a residential restoration endorsement for contractors who perform water, fire, smoke, and mold restoration on homes — the cleanup-and-rebuild trade that often works directly with insurers after a loss. ORS 701.081 sets the bond for this endorsement at $15,000.

The bond is a homeowner-protection guarantee: a three-party arrangement among you (the principal), the surety, and the State of Oregon through the CCB (the obligee), with the homeowners you restore for as the protected parties. If the CCB issues a final order against you under ORS 701.145, the surety pays up to the bond amount.

It is not insurance for you — if the surety pays a claim, you repay the surety, and it is separate from your liability coverage. Confirm on your CCB application that the restoration endorsement is the one you are bonding; we issue whichever the board names. The bond must stay active for the two-year life of your endorsement.

No. You pay $450 — the flat 3% of the bond amount. The $15,000 is the surety's maximum liability if the CCB issues a final order against the bond; it's not a deposit, and nobody holds your money.
