About this bond

What it is and who needs it.

What the bond actually guarantees

Oklahoma regulates the commercial mussel trade through the Department of Wildlife Conservation under the Wildlife Conservation Code (Title 29). Anyone who wants to buy, transport out of state, or export mussels must first hold a commercial mussel dealer license — and file a $5,000 surety bond with the Department.

The bond is conditioned on observance and compliance with the Wildlife Conservation Code, and is subject to forfeiture upon conviction of a violation of §4-129 or any Department resolution. It backs your promise to deal in mussels lawfully.

It is not insurance for you — if the bond is forfeited, you are responsible for the loss. Dealers who follow the harvest and trade rules treat the $5,000 bond as a license formality. We issue it at a flat 3% (the $275 minimum) with no credit check.

29 O.S. §4-129Under 29 O.S. §4-129, a person who buys, transports out of state, or exports mussels must file a $5,000 surety bond with the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation, conditioned on observance and compliance with the Wildlife Conservation Code and subject to forfeiture upon conviction of a violation of the section or any Department resolution.
