About this bond

What the bond actually guarantees

An electrical contractor bond is a code-and-public-safety guarantee to the city. The City of Richmond Heights conditions registration for electrical work on a surety bond so that wiring and electrical installations in the city meet the electrical code.

It is a three-party arrangement: you (the principal), the surety carrier, and the City of Richmond Heights (the obligee), with the public as the protected party. If your electrical work violates code or is left defective and you do not correct it, the city can recover against the bond.

It is not insurance for you — if the surety pays the city, you repay the surety. We keep the bond active and notify you 60 and 30 days out so your registration stays continuous.

FAQs

Common questions.

If yours isn't here, the bond team can usually answer within the hour.

How much is the Richmond Heights electrical bond? +
The premium is a flat 3% of the bond amount, with a $275 minimum. The amount itself is set by the city on your registration. Enter that figure and the quote updates instantly.
Do I pay the full bond amount? +
No. You pay the premium — 3% of the bond amount, $275 minimum. The bond amount is the surety's maximum liability to the city; it is not a deposit.
Is there a credit check? +
For typical amounts, no credit pull is needed. Larger bond amounts may get a quick soft-pull review, which never affects your credit score.
What does the bond guarantee? +
That your electrical work meets the city electrical code. If it violates code or is left defective and you do not correct it, the city can claim against the bond, and if the surety pays, you repay the surety.
When does it renew? +
The bond must stay active as long as you hold the registration. You can buy a 1, 2, or 3-year term; we send renewal notices 60 and 30 days out so your registration never lapses.
