The Metropolitan Sewer District of Greater Cincinnati (MSDGC) owns and maintains the public sewer system across Hamilton County and the City of Cincinnati. When you excavate or place fill where the work could disturb a sewer, manhole, or district easement, the district conditions the permit on a surety bond.
The bond is a guarantee to the district: that you perform the permitted work to MSDGC standards, restore any disturbed sewer infrastructure and surface, and leave the system as sound as you found it. If you damage district facilities and fail to make them right, MSDGC can recover against the bond.
