About this bond

What it is and who needs it.

What the bond actually guarantees

A contractor license bond is a compliance-and-public-protection guarantee. Fairfield County conditions your contractor license on it so the county, and residents who hire you, have a financial backstop that you'll follow the county's building and contractor rules.

It's a three-party arrangement: you (the principal), the surety carrier standing behind you, and Fairfield County (the obligee), with residents and the county as the protected parties. If you violate the contractor ordinance or leave damage to public property unpaid, a harmed party can recover against the bond.

It is not insurance for you — if the surety pays a claim, you repay the surety. We track the bond and notify you 60 and 30 days before expiration so your $10,000 filing with the County stays continuous.

Fairfield County — Contractor LicensingFairfield County requires this bond as a condition of its contractor license; the $10,000 bond amount and terms are set by the County and administered through its Building Department / Regional Planning Commission. We don't cite a specific code section we can't verify — the controlling requirement is Fairfield County's contractor licensing rule as applied by the licensing department.

FAQs

Common questions.

If yours isn't here, the bond team can usually answer within the hour.

How much is the Fairfield County contractor license bond? +
The premium is $300 — a flat 3% of the fixed $10,000 bond amount, the same for every contractor. The $10,000 is set by the County, so there is no quote process.
Do I pay the $10,000? +
No. You pay $300. The $10,000 is the surety's maximum liability if a valid claim is made against the bond — not a deposit, and nobody holds your money.
How fast will I have the bond? +
License bonds like this are among the thousands of bond types that issue right after purchase — many contractors finish the application and have the bond in the same sitting. At most, 1–2 business days.
Is there a credit check? +
Not on this bond — the application has no credit section at all. Small fixed-amount municipal license bonds like this one don't need one.
When does it renew? +
The bond must stay active for as long as you're licensed with the County. You can buy a 1, 2, or 3-year term; we send renewal notices 60 and 30 days out, with autopay available, so your license never lapses over a missed email.
