Section 58-70-20 of the North Carolina Collection Agency Act requires every nonresident applicant for a permit to file with the Commissioner of Insurance a bond in the amount of ten thousand dollars ($10,000) for the purpose of reimbursing the Department for expenses incurred in visiting and examining a nonresident collection agency in connection with a federal bankruptcy or State receivership proceeding in which the collection agency is the subject of the proceeding; that bond remains in effect until terminated by the Commissioner. Section 58-70-5(a)(5) doubles the surety bond requirements for an alien corporation, making this bond $20,000. Permits run July 1 to June 30 under G.S. 58-70-35(b).
