About this bond

What it is and who needs it.

What the septic contractor bond guarantees

A septic system contractor bond is a performance and compliance guarantee to the municipality. The Borough of Franklin Lakes conditions a septic contractor license on this bond so that work on individual subsurface sewage disposal systems is done to code and the public health is protected.

It is a three-party arrangement: you (the principal), the surety carrier, and the Borough of Franklin Lakes (the obligee). If you install a system improperly, damage Borough property, or violate the local septic requirements, the Borough — or a harmed property owner — can recover against the $30,000 bond.

The bond must stay active for as long as you hold the license. Let it lapse and the Borough can suspend your license — so we track it and notify you 60 and 30 days out, keeping your $30,000 filing continuous.
