What the bond actually guarantees
New Jersey licenses burglar alarm and locksmith businesses through the Fire Alarm, Burglar Alarm and Locksmith Advisory Committee, a unit within the Board of Examiners of Electrical Contractors in the Division of Consumer Affairs. When a license covers burglar alarm and locksmith work, it is conditioned on a $10,000 surety bond — a consumer-protection guarantee behind the work you perform.
It's a three-party arrangement: you (the principal), the surety carrier, and the State of New Jersey (the obligee), with your customers as the protected parties. If a licensee violates the Act through fraud, misrepresentation, or failure to perform contracted work, a harmed customer can recover against the bond.
