About this bond

What it is and who needs it.

What the bond actually guarantees

A sidewalk and curb bond is a restoration and workmanship guarantee. When you build or replace sidewalks, curbs, driveways, gutters, or drains in the public right-of-way, the Township of Bloomfield wants assurance the work meets township standard and that any damage to the right-of-way is repaired.

It is a three-party arrangement: you (the principal), the surety carrier, and the Township of Bloomfield (the obligee). If your work fails inspection or you leave the right-of-way damaged, the township can recover its repair cost against the bond.

It is not insurance for you — if the surety pays the township, you repay the surety. Contractors who build to standard and pass inspection treat it as a permit formality. We issue the $2,000 amount, at a flat 3% ($275 minimum) with no credit check.

FAQs

Common questions.

If yours isn't here, the bond team can usually answer within the hour.

How much is the Bloomfield sidewalk and curb bond? +
The premium is $275 — a flat 3% of the fixed $2,000 bond amount works out to $60, which is below our $275 minimum, so the price is $275. The same for every applicant. The $2,000 is set by the township, so there is no quote process.
Do I pay the $2,000? +
No. You pay $275. The $2,000 is the surety’s maximum liability if a valid claim is made against the bond — not a deposit, and nobody holds your money.
Who requires this bond? +
The Township of Bloomfield Engineering Department requires it as a condition of a permit for sidewalk, curb, driveway, gutter, or drain work in the public right-of-way.
Is there a credit check? +
Not on this bond — the application has no credit section at all. Small fixed-amount permit bonds like this one do not need one.
When does it renew? +
You can buy a 1, 2, or 3-year term; we send renewal notices 60 and 30 days out, with autopay available, so the bond stays continuous while your Bloomfield permit is open.
