About this bond

What it is and who needs it.

What the bond actually guarantees

New Hampshire licenses traveling sellers — hawkers and peddlers — under RSA 320, with state licenses issued by the Secretary of State. When the applicant is not a natural person (a corporation or other entity), RSA 320:8 requires a $5,000 deposit with the Secretary of State, in cash or a surety bond.

The deposit covers the corporation and its employees or agents who sell under the license. It stands behind their compliance with the hawker/peddler law and protects the public and the state against losses from violations.

The bond must remain effective for at least 60 days after the annual renewal date, and the licensee files written proof it's in force. It is not insurance for you — if the surety pays a claim, you repay the surety. We track your bond and notify you well ahead of the renewal date.

RSA 320:8New Hampshire RSA 320:8 provides that when an applicant for a state hawker/peddler license is not a natural person, a $5,000 deposit with the Secretary of State — in cash or surety bond — is required, covering the entity's employees and agents. Any surety bond posted must remain effective for at least 60 days after the annual renewal date, with written proof of coverage filed at renewal.

FAQs

Common questions.

If yours isn't here, the bond team can usually answer within the hour.

How much is the New Hampshire corporate hawker & peddler bond? +
The premium is $275 — our flat minimum. The bond amount is $5,000 under RSA 320:8, and 3% of that ($150) falls below our $275 floor, so the price is the minimum.
Do I pay the $5,000? +
No. You pay $275. The $5,000 is the surety's maximum liability if a valid claim is made — or, if you prefer, RSA 320:8 lets you deposit $5,000 cash instead. The bond costs far less than tying up the cash.
Who needs this — individuals too? +
RSA 320:8 requires the $5,000 deposit when the applicant is not a natural person — a corporation or other entity. Individual applicants are handled differently; this bond is the corporate version.
Is there a credit check? +
Not on this bond — the application has no credit section at all. Small fixed-amount license bonds like this one don't need one.
When does it renew? +
The bond must stay effective at least 60 days past the annual renewal date. You can buy a 1, 2, or 3-year term; we send renewal notices 60 and 30 days out, with autopay available.
