About this bond

What it is and who needs it.

What the bond actually guarantees

Nevada runs a vehicle Emission Control Program through the DMV in Clark and Washoe counties, and authorizes private stations to perform emission inspections. As a condition of that authorization, a station posts a bond for the benefit of the Department and the public.

The bond backs the station’s honest performance and compliance with the emission program rules — it stands behind any fraud, fraudulent representation, or violation of the applicable provisions of NRS chapters 445A, 445B and 598 and the related NAC rules by an inspector or agent of the station.

This page covers the $10,000 bond. The exact amount and conditions are fixed by the DMV program, so there is no quote process — the bond must stay active for as long as your station is authorized, and we track it and notify you ahead of expiration.

Nevada DMV Emission Control Program (NRS/NAC 445B)Nevada’s vehicle emission inspection program operates under NRS and NAC chapter 445B and is administered by the DMV. Authorized stations post a surety bond approved as to form by the Attorney General, conditioned against fraud or violation of the applicable provisions of NRS chapters 445A, 445B and 598 and the related NAC rules. This page covers the $10,000 station bond; confirm the amount on your DMV authorization.

FAQs

Common questions.

If yours isn't here, the bond team can usually answer within the hour.

How much is the Nevada emission station bond? +
The premium is $300 — a flat 3% of the $10,000 bond amount, the same for every station. The amount is fixed by the DMV program, so there is no quote process.
Do I pay the $10,000? +
No. You pay $300. The $10,000 is the surety's maximum liability if a valid claim is made against the bond — not a deposit, and nobody holds your money.
Is there a credit check? +
Not on this bond — the application has no credit section at all. Small fixed-amount bonds like this one don't need one.
How fast will I have the bond? +
Small fixed-amount bonds like this are among the thousands of bond types that issue right after purchase — many stations finish the application and have the bond in the same sitting. At most, 1–2 business days.
When does it renew? +
The bond must stay active for as long as your station is authorized. You can buy a 1, 2, or 3-year term; we send renewal notices 60 and 30 days out, with autopay available, so your authorization never lapses over a missed email.
