About this bond

What the driving school bond actually guarantees

Nevada licenses driving schools through the DMV under the driving-school provisions of NRS Chapter 483. NRS 483.770 conditions an operator's license on a continuous surety bond, and the DMV files it on form OBL-277 — it must be signed by a principal of the school and executed by a corporate surety authorized in Nevada.

The bond is a consumer-protection guarantee. It is conditioned that the operator runs the school without fraud or fraudulent representation — so students who are defrauded, or who pay for instruction the school fails to deliver, have a financial backstop to recover against.

The statutory amount is $10,000, and the DMV may reduce it to $5,000 for an operator who has satisfactorily conducted the school for the five years immediately preceding the request. Whatever amount applies to you, we issue the bond at a flat 3% with no credit check.

FAQs

Common questions.

If yours isn't here, the bond team can usually answer within the hour.

How much is the Nevada driving school bond? +
The premium is a flat 3% of the bond amount, with a $275 minimum. The standard bond is $10,000 under NRS 483.770, so the premium runs $300 — or $275 if the DMV has reduced your bond to $5,000. Enter your amount and the quote updates.
Can my bond be reduced to $5,000? +
Yes. Under NRS 483.770, the DMV may reduce a driving-school operator's bond to not less than $5,000 if the operator has satisfactorily conducted the school for the five years immediately before the request. We re-issue at the lower amount once the DMV approves it.
Is there a credit check? +
No — this bond is issued with no credit pull. Larger bond amounts may get a quick soft-pull review, which never affects your credit score.
What does the bond protect against? +
It backs your obligation to run the school without fraud or fraudulent representation. If a student is defrauded or pays for instruction the school fails to deliver, they can recover against the bond — and if the surety pays, you repay the surety.
Which form do I file? +
DMV form OBL-277, signed by a principal of the school, filed with your driving-school operator license application. We provide the executed bond ready to submit.
