About this bond

What it is and who needs it.

What the bond actually guarantees

Nebraska’s State Athletic Commissioner has sole jurisdiction over professional boxing, wrestling, mixed martial arts, kickboxing, muay thai, and related matches and exhibitions. A promoter license is conditioned on a bond that backs the promoter’s obligations to the Commission, the participants, and the public.

The bond runs to the State for the benefit of those who could be harmed if a promoter fails to meet the Athletic Commission’s requirements — for example, unpaid fees, purses, or taxes tied to an event. It’s a three-party arrangement: you (the principal), the surety, and the State (the obligee).

It is not insurance for you — if the surety pays a claim, you repay the surety. Promoters who run clean, fully-funded events treat the bond as a licensing formality.

Neb. Rev. Stat. 81-8,128 et seq. (81-8,132)Nebraska regulates professional boxing, wrestling, and mixed martial arts under Neb. Rev. Stat. 81-8,128 through 81-8,142, administered by the State Athletic Commissioner. Section 81-8,132 conditions a professional license on a bond in the sum of not less than $5,000. Confirm the current amount and form with the Nebraska Athletic Commission, which sets the filing requirements.
