The City of Mankato registers contractors who use the public right-of-way and conditions that use on a $5,000 bond. This bond covers obstructing and/or occupying the right-of-way — staging materials, scaffolding, dumpsters, closures, and similar temporary uses.
It is a three-party arrangement: you (the principal), the surety carrier, and the City of Mankato (the obligee). If you damage public improvements, fail to clear the right-of-way, or leave it out of compliance, the city can recover its costs against the bond.
