About this bond

What it is and who needs it.

What the bond actually guarantees

An amusements / public entertainments bond is a compliance guarantee to the City of Detroit. When you run an amusement or entertainment venue open to the public, the City wants a financial backstop that you'll operate within its ordinances — licensing, safety, and public-protection rules — and not leave the public or the City holding the cost of a violation.

It's a three-party arrangement: you (the principal), the surety carrier, and the City of Detroit (the obligee). If you violate the City's amusements ordinance or harm a member of the public in connection with the licensed activity, a claim can be made against the bond up to $10,000.

The bond must stay active while you're licensed. Let it lapse and the City can suspend your amusements license — so we track it and notify you 60 and 30 days out, keeping your $10,000 filing continuous.

City of Detroit — Business License CenterThe City of Detroit requires a $10,000 surety bond as a condition of its amusements / public entertainments license, issued through the City of Detroit Business License Center; the bond amount and terms are set by the City under its business-licensing ordinance. We have not cited a specific section number because the City code provision is not published in a verifiable form online — confirm the filing details with the City of Detroit Business License Center.
