About this bond

What it is and who needs it.

What the bond actually guarantees

Caroline County licenses plumbers and conditions the license on a $2,000 surety bond. The bond is a compliance guarantee: it stands behind your obligation to follow the County's plumbing code and the related ordinances and Maryland law.

It's a three-party arrangement: you (the principal), the surety carrier, and Caroline County (the obligee). If a plumber violates the County code and the County or a harmed party suffers, they can recover against the bond.

It is not insurance for you — if the surety pays a claim, you repay the surety. Plumbers who follow the County code treat the bond as a license formality.

FAQs

Common questions.

If yours isn't here, the bond team can usually answer within the hour.

How much is the Caroline County plumbing bond? +
The premium is $275 — our minimum. A flat 3% of the $2,000 bond amount is $60, which is below the minimum, so you pay $275. Same for every plumber.
Do I pay the $2,000? +
No. You pay $275. The $2,000 is the surety's maximum liability if a valid claim is made against the bond — not a deposit.
How fast will I have the bond? +
License bonds like this issue fast — many plumbers finish and have the bond in the same sitting. At most, 1–2 business days.
Is there a credit check? +
Not on this bond — the application has no credit section at all.
When does it renew? +
The bond must stay active for as long as you hold the County plumbing license. You can buy a 1, 2, or 3-year term; we send renewal notices 60 and 30 days out.
