Maine requires a resident professional investigator to file a $10,000 bond with the Chief of the State Police under 32 M.R.S. §8111. Ours is $300 flat — 3% of the bond amount, with our $275 minimum already cleared. The application is five minutes, with no credit check on this bond.

License bonds are the simplest thing in surety. Here's the entire process:
Business details, your county, and an effective date. That's the application — no financials, no credit check section.
License bonds like this are among the thousands of bond types that issue right after purchase. At most, 1–2 business days.
Your executed bond and power of attorney arrive by email, ready to file with the Chief of the State Police alongside your license application. Wet-ink original mailed on request.
$10,000 bond × 3% = $300, one-time per term. Fixed amount, fixed price, multi-year if you want it.
A Maine professional investigator bond is an honest-conduct guarantee. Under 32 M.R.S. §8111, the bond is conditioned on the honest conduct of your investigative business — and it gives any person injured by an intentional, knowing, reckless, or negligent act of the licensee the right to bring an action on the bond in their own name.
It's a three-party arrangement: you (the principal), the surety carrier, and the people your work touches as the protected parties. The bond is filed with the Chief of the State Police, who administers professional investigator licensing in Maine.
It is not insurance for you — if the surety pays a valid claim, you repay the surety. The bond must stay active for the life of your license, so we track it and notify you 60 and 30 days out to keep your $10,000 filing continuous.
These are the actual issuing fields — no credit check section, because this bond doesn't have one.
