The Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas requires every master plumbing contractor to post a $5,000 license bond. Ours is $275 flat — the minimum premium, since 3% of $5,000 is under it. The application is five minutes, with no credit check.

License bonds are the simplest thing in surety. Here's the entire process:
Business details and an effective date. That's the application — no financials, no credit check section, no follow-up scavenger hunt.
Small fixed license bonds like this issue right after purchase for most applicants. At most, 1–2 business days.
Your executed bond and power of attorney arrive by email, ready to file with the Building Inspections Division for your plumber license. Wet-ink original mailed on request.
$5,000 bond × 3% = $150, but our minimum is $275, so the price is $275 per term. Multi-year if you want it.
A master plumber bond is a workmanship-and-compliance guarantee. The Unified Government wants a financial backstop that your plumbing work meets code and that the public is protected from damage caused by your work.
It's a three-party arrangement: you (the principal), the surety carrier, and the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas (the obligee). If your work damages persons or property or violates the plumbing code, the Unified Government and harmed parties can recover against the bond.
The bond must stay active for the life of your license. The Wyandotte County term runs annually through December 31 — let it lapse and your license is in jeopardy, so we track it and notify you 60 and 30 days out. It is not insurance for you: if the surety pays, you repay the surety.
These are the actual issuing fields — no credit check section, because this bond doesn't have one.
